Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my strong interest in the PhD Student position in Electrochemical CO₂-Capture at Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg, Germany. I am highly motivated by this opportunity to contribute to the development of sustainable electrochemical technologies through the study of ion exchange membrane performance and durability.
I hold a Master’s degree by research in Chemical Engineering, where I developed strong expertise in molecular simulation and experimental membrane science. My research followed an integrated workflow from molecular dynamics and density functional theory simulations to experimental validation, enabling me to analyze atomistic interactions, transport mechanisms, and structure-property relationships in gas separation systems. This background has prepared me well for computationally driven research with targeted experimental validation, as emphasized in this project.
During my MSc and research assistantship, I gained experience in computational modeling using Materials Studio and CP2K, along with data analysis and interpretation of complex physicochemical systems. In parallel, I conducted extensive experimental characterization and performance testing of membrane materials. More recently, I have been involved in research on metal-organic framework-based CO₂ reduction, including the preparation of a review article and a computational study on reaction mechanisms. These experiences strengthened my interest in combining modeling, electrochemistry, and materials design for sustainable energy applications.
In addition, I have experience in data analysis using tools such as Excel and computational platforms, along with a strong interest in applying numerical and statistical methods to materials research. I am comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively in interdisciplinary environments and am highly motivated to contribute to high-quality scientific publications.
I would be honored to join your research program and pursue my doctoral studies in cooperation with your academic partners. Thank you for considering my application.

Kind regards,
Mehtab Ali

Dear Professor,
I am writing to express my strong interest in pursuing a Ph.D. under your supervision in the Electrochemical methods for CO₂ capture and separation
• Advanced membrane technology
• Material design & process optimization
• Coupling experimental work with modelling/simulation at Comenius University, Bratislava. The opportunity to pursue my PhD studies at such a prestigious institution under the guidance of experienced researchers is a dream come true for me, and I am excited to submit my application for consideration. I have completed my master’s degree in Chemistry from Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, Pakistan, and now I am currently in China working on a research project. Through my academic journey and research experience, I have gained extensive knowledge, particularly in materials science, homogeneous catalysis, rheology, concrete, polymer, and hydrogels, and their different applications, such as water treatment, photocatalysis, water splitting, and their biomedical applications. During my master's degree, I was fortunate to be involved in research that allowed me to apply my knowledge and skills in synthesizing different materials. Additionally, I have developed expertise in transition metal complexes through my academic and research experiences, which I believe align closely with your work in this field. I have experience in using chemical and physical methods to prepare metallic, metal oxides, their core-shell, 2D materials, MXene, Metal-organic frameworks, and Prussian blue analogues. My ability to synthesize materials has been enhanced by my knowledge of using characterization tools such as UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffractogram, impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), current-voltage (I-V), Raman, TGA, sorption techniques, and electron microscopy measurements through a source measuring unit.
During my Master’s research, I focused on the development of advanced materials for environmental remediation, specifically for water treatment and photocatalysis. I have published six research papers in reputable journals and submitted twelve more, showcasing my ability to conduct high-quality, original research. My work has included exploring innovative solutions to address global water scarcity issues through photocatalytic degradation and water splitting technologies. Additionally, I have been involved in investigating the biomedical applications of these materials, including their potential for antimicrobial activity and drug delivery systems.
My research interests align closely with the exploration of semiconductor-based photocatalysts, including transition metal-doped materials, for solar-driven water purification processes. I am eager to contribute to the development of innovative photocatalytic systems that can efficiently and sustainably treat wastewater, thereby addressing one of the most critical environmental challenges of our time.
In addition to my academic background, I bring relevant experience from the pharmaceutical industry, where I was involved in the development and optimization of chemical processes for synthesizing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). This experience has provided me with a strong foundation in chemical synthesis, process optimization, and analytical techniques. It has also reinforced my commitment to applying my scientific knowledge to solve real-world problems, particularly in the context of environmental sustainability.
I am particularly impressed by your work on " Electrochemical methods for CO₂ capture and separation, Advanced membrane technology, Material design & process optimization, Coupling experimental work with modeling/simulation, and it aligns with my research interests. The opportunity to work under your guidance and contribute to your ongoing research would be a tremendous honor. I am confident that my background in chemistry, my research experience with materials science, and their environmental and biomedical applications make me a strong candidate for a PhD position in your group.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the possibility of collaborating with you on groundbreaking research in materials science and environmental chemistry.
Sincerely,
Imam Hussain,
